Employee turnover is always a concern for small and mid-size business owners. And while a tight labor market makes turnover more difficult, taking steps to keep your employees satisfied in their jobs is a smart business move in any economy.
Turnover is costly, with one study estimating that the cost of losing one employee can reach 33% of a worker’s annual salary. Happy employees, on the other hand, have been linked to higher sales and profits.
But you don’t need a calculator to capture the real value of having employees who find satisfaction in their jobs. It shows in the kind of service they provide to customers.
And, as it turns out, a company that places a high value on customer service is more likely to have employees who find a strong sense of purpose and satisfaction in their work.
A Culture of Customer Service Gives Meaning to Work
A 2018 SurveyMonkey survey of more than 1,000 workers at customer-facing companies found a strong connection between job satisfaction and a customer-centric culture. The results showed that employees whose companies made customer service a “key priority” were more likely to find their jobs meaningful than those at companies where customer service was not seen as a high priority. In fact, 83% of employees who worked at companies described as prioritizing customer satisfaction said they expected to still be working there in two years.
At Budget, we have always found meaning in the work we do for our clients. We know what it means to our clients to have a reliable, cost-effective and high-quality work uniform program that they never have to think about. And we’ve always approached customer satisfaction as a team effort. So it doesn’t really surprise us to learn that there may be a connection between customer service priorities and happy employees. Who wouldn’t be happier working at something that really makes a difference in the lives of customers, and doing that work in the company of other employees who feel the same way? It’s all part of the same culture, and it’s one we have nurtured at Budget Uniform through three generations of family ownership.
Nothing Makes Budget Employees Happier on the Job than Happy Customers
But picking up a nice clean spare can come pretty close. While it’s great to work together as a team, we believe it’s important to play together once in a while as well. A recently organized bowling night was a chance for us to come together in the spirit of camaraderie and friendly competition to dominate the lanes. Some of us take bowling pretty seriously…
The point is, we all take teamwork seriously. From quarterly training meetings that focus on customer service to our “team” themed meetings to team outings, our teamwork is ultimately focused on one thing: the success of our customers. We are not just a work uniform company, we’re a work uniform team, dedicated to your success.
With over six decades of service, we have built our business around client relationships. We’re not just here to supply you with a uniform, we’re here to provide you with solutions that allow you to focus on growing your business.
And we do that with a team of professionals who are making their careers with Budget. That creates a level of customer service and accountability you won’t find anywhere else, in our opinion.
