The novel coronavirus is dominating the headlines in California as the number of cases continues to rise. Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency after a California man, who had been a passenger on a cruise ship, died from the virus.
But as health officials continue to search for ways to contain the virus, it is worth remembering the effectiveness of some basic precautions for reducing the spread of the virus – and other more ordinary forms of transmittable illness.
Wash Your Hands Often and Well
Health officials continue to preach the virtues of hand washing with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommending frequent hand washing throughout the day.
- Before, during and after preparing food
- Before eating food
- Before and after caring for someone who is sick
- Before and after treating a cut or wound
- After using the restroom, changing diapers or cleaning up after a child who has used the restroom
- After blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing
- After touching an animal, animal food or treats, animal cages or animal waste
- After touching garbage
Keeping Your Employees and Customers Healthy
Keeping your workplace clean and well stocked with hand washing supplies is always a good idea, but at a time of heightened concern, it’s worth taking a few extra steps to ensure that supplies do not run out. More frequent handwashing is going to require more frequent replenishment of supplies. Keeping up on your own can be time-consuming.
At Budget Uniform, our restroom supply services can help you maintain healthy and fresh workplaces with a regular supply of soaps, paper towel rolls, seat covers and tissue.
Proper Hand Washing Technique
Supplies however, are not enough. As the CDC reminds us, effective hand washing follows a specific technique. Here’s a refresher:
Wet your hands first and apply soap. Make sure to scrub every part of your hands, and continue scrubbing for at least 20 seconds. Scrub the palms, backs of your hands, fingers, between your fingers and under your nails. Rinse your hands under clean running water and dry them with a clean towel.
At Budget, we have a reliable and cost-effective restroom supply service that can ensure that soap and other hand-washing supplies are always available. Stay Healthy!
